LOCAL PARENTS AND EMPLOYERS HELP KIDS ACHIEVE DEGREES

YUBA CITY, CA – Four local students’ life just became easier thanks to the generosity of Sutter Health, the parent company of Sutter North Medical Foundation.
With a wide variety of community outreach and educational programs, it was not surprising when Sutter established Sutter Scholar’s, a scholarship fund for children and grandchildren of Sutter employees.
In 2002, Sutter Health established this program for students, who might otherwise not be able to attend college, and to encourage education in health care related fields. Tuition and educational grant fees ranging from $50 to $4,000 were given to college and college bound students based on need and competitive review. More than $6,500 were granted to children of Sutter North Medical Foundation employees, with a system wide total of $1.1 million helping 547 students.
“What better way to help our community and invest in our future than to give students the means to achieve their educational goals,” said James Conforti, CEO of Sutter North Medical Foundation. “By giving our employees and their families this opportunity it really showcases our goal of being the “employer of choice.”
This year’s winners include Sarah Petersen, Stephanie Graham, Kathryn E. Hudson, Sarah Webster and Abigail L. Ayckbourn. Applications for the 2005-2006 academic year grants will be accepted in March 2005 at Sutter North Medical Foundation’s Human Resources department.
