    Spirit of Giving

As the end of the year approaches, it is a good time to reflect upon what we have accomplished and the needs of our community. Many people take this opportunity to make a meaningful gift to a charitable organization, and they are awarded tax benefits as a result.

As a part of our community, Sutter North Medical Foundation is proud to provide high quality, personal health care to the entire Yuba-Sutter community. Our mission is to enhance the well being of the people in our community, through a not for profit commitment to compassion and excellence in health care. Over the next year, we will be continuing to grow our hospice services and expand our cardiology unit which provides life saving diagonistic procedures.

We hope that you might consider Sutter North Medical Foundation in your year-end giving plans.

    How to give

Typically at year-end, many people make gifts to their favorite charitable organizations using cash. There are, however, alternatives to giving cash.

Highly appreciated assets such as securities and real estate should be closely examined and considered as possible gifts. The asset must have been held for more than one year for the entire fair market value to be deductible.

Donors who have depreciated assets are well advised to sell the asset, write off the loss that is available to them and then use the cash to make a gift.

    Timing is Everything

All gifts must be completed by December 31 in order to qualify for an income tax deduction this year. Cash contributions are deductible if they are postmarked by midnight December 31. Gifts of securities are deductible on the date they are transferred to Sutter North Medical Foundation, for real estate gifts, the gift is counted on the date the deed transferring the property to the charitable organization or charitable trust takes place.
