Imaging Technologies
Advanced imaging technology has made it possible to save patients lives with equipment who operates this sophisticated equipment must have technical ability and medical knowledge. They also must be able to communicate well with patients to get the best results.
Technologist work in hospitals, clinics or independent diagnostic centers, amd operate a wide variety of equipment. They perform high level diagnostic and invasive procedures. Ultrasound, MRI, CT, mammographers, Nuclear medicine, and Radiologic Technologists operate equipment that can produce pictures or images used to diagnose and monitor diseases.

License Certification
Employers, state licensing agencies and federal regulators look at the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) credential as an indicator that a person has met a recognized national standard for medical imaging procedures.

Services
Radiologic Technologist
Radiologic Technologist use radiation to create images to diagnose patients, working from doctor’s orders they use x-rays, fluoroscopes, and other techniques to create these pictures. They position patients for each procedure and calculate the appropriate exposure for each x-ray including duration, distance from the patient and strength of the x-ray.

MRI Technologist
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist produce cross-sectional images of a patient’s body using MRI technology. This technology uses magnets and radio waves instead of x-rays to create images. MRI images are used by Radiologist physician to diagnose a wide variety of diseases. MRI Technologist explain the procedure to patients and prepare them for the MRI. They select appropriate equipment, position the patient and monitor them during the exam.

Mammography
The study of the breast using x-ray. The actual test is called a mammogram. The purpose is breast cancer detection.
A screen test, by definition is used for patients without any signs or symptoms in order to detect diseases as early as possible. Many studies have shown that having regular mammograms increases a woman’s chances of finding breast cancer in an early stage. It has been estimated that a mammogram may find a cancer before it can be felt.

Computed Tomography (CAT Scan)
Is a diagnostic procedure that uses special x-ray equipment to obtain cross-sectional pictures of the body. The CT computer displays these pictures as detailed images of organs, bones, and other tissues. It can detect or confirm the presence of a tumor, provide information about the size and location of the tumor and whether is has spread, can also determine if the cancer is responding to treatment.

Computed Tomography Angiography
Is used to visualize arterial and venous vessels throughout the body. This ranges from arteries serving the brain to those bringing blood to the lungs, kidneys, arms and legs.
The scan is performed simultaneously with a high speed contrast media injection using a technique called “bolous tracking.” CTA is a less invasive and patient friendly exam. The contrast material is injected into a small peripheral vein by using a small needle.

Ultrasound Technologist
Ultrasound Technologist use sound waves to create cross sectional images of a patient’s body. They move an ultrasound emitting device over the part of the body of interest while watching a video screen on which an image is being produced and recorded. They use their knowledge of anatomy to find the correct area to view. When satisfied with this display, the technologist captures these images and forwards it to the physician who then interprets the image.

Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Nuclear Medicine Technologists use radioactive drugs to diagnose and treat illnesses. The primary job of most nuclear medicine technologist is to diagnose diseases. To do this, they calculate the amount of radioactive drug needed and give the drugs to the patient either by mouth or injection. They then operate the scanning equipment that traces the location of radioactive materials within a patients’ body. These scans are used by doctors to diagnose diseases.
Bone Density
Is used to help screen early osteoporosis.

Radiologist
Radiologist is a medical doctor that used technology, computers, medical imaging, and medical equipment like MRI, CT, and ultrasound, to assist other doctors in figuring out issues related to their patients’ medical conditions. Radiological exams are absolute necessities in the medical evaluation of any patient and the Radiologist is the one that interprets these.
